Six of one, half a dozen of the other

Six (6) of one (1), half dozen of another is a cliche often used to compare two things when they are about the same. Whether a glass is half full or half empty is six of one, a half dozen of the other unless one is wearing rose colored glasses, in which case the comparison is all in the eye of the beholder.

What if a baker's dozen is in the picture? Comparing half of a baker's dozen to six is like comparing apples to oranges. Actually a baker's dozen is difficult to come across these days, so pursuing this argument is akin to beating a dead horse. Be that as it may and other things being equal, six of one, half dozen of the other is an acceptable way of making comparisons as long as one insists on using cliches.

Whether this post stinks or smells is six of one or a half dozen of the other! I'd say it has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous except that I would be hard put to point out the sublime. You can bet your bottom dollar that I've had my fill of comparisons and you can take that to the bank.
