My Two Cents Worth

I found myself using the idiom my two cents worth in a post I wrote for another blog recently. My immediate reaction was that I had violated one of the cardinal rules of good writing - avoid cliches like the plague. Even worse I may have committed the mortal sin of writing - taking the lazy way out to make a point. At this point (is making a point a cliche) I must ask, is taking the lazy way out a cliche? I've gotten to the point ( that point is beginning to hurt) where I can't make head or tails out what exactly distinguishes an idiom from a cliche. On the other hand, does it really matter. Cliche, idiom - both have the stigma of lazy writing. I'll lay my cards on the table, I would like to write without using cliches or cliche like idioms but I'm my own worst enemy. That's another way of saying that if the truth were known, I'm a lazy writer.
