Easy As Pie

To characterize doing something "as easy as pie' can be misleading. If this cliche is taken to heart,  making a pie would be easy. That being the case, I tried my hand at making an apple pie. What should have been a piece of cake went haywire. I have an ax to grind with anyone looking down their nose and using cliches like easy as pie. If the truth were known what's easy as pie resulted from practise, practise, practise! To do less results in  spinning one's wheels or worse yet, pissing in the wind.
