Begging The Question
Are cliches and idioms related? They are at least first cousins. Cliches can be either figurative or literal while idioms are strictly figurative or more to the point cliches are bisexual while idioms are heterosexual. If this is all Greek, you are undoubtedly not thinking outside the box. How you got boxed in is a mystery to me but let me try one more time. An idiom can be a figurative cliche. How? Simply by overusing the idiom ( he got cold feet and pulled out of the race). I submit that most idioms are overused which makes them cliches. Think if it's not one thing, it's another - certainly an idiom, certainly overused. At this point I can be accused of begging the question but I don't care a rap and I mean that literally.
