Horsing Around

Sometimes getting someone to take advice which makes a lot of horse sense is like beating a dead horse. Even if it comes straight from the horse’s mouth it is likely to fall on deaf ears. After all, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. After they find that they have looked a gift horse in the mouth, they also realize that they closed the barn door after the horse was gone. Of course I could get on my high horse and conclude that if the horse is gone there is no horse sense to offer, only horse shit.
