When it rains it pours

No one in their right mind who aspires to be President of The United States should expect life to be a bowl of cherries once he or she is in The White House. I would like to believe that President Obama bought into that and was realistic enough to realize that in any administration a little rain must fall. I doubt , however, that he was prepared to spend almost six years watching it rain pitchforks because of his color. As if that were not enough, the man was confronted by a recession not of his doing, enough natural disasters to make anyone's head swim and a congressional opposition determined to make him look inept and even criminal.

While domestic problems rear their ugly heads, world events simultaneously demand their place in the sun. Enough that we must extricate ourselves from Afghanistan and still hold our head high, now we must deal with a Russia which wants more of the former Soviet Union on its plate, a Syrian strongman willing to destroy his country before capitulating to insurgents, an Israel and a Palestine who continually go to the dance but refuse to embrace, a Kim Jung-Un  who treats nuclear weapons like toys and a China looking to replace The United States as the most powerful nation in the world .... on and on. When it rains it pours.

As 2016 approaches, one might think that only a fool would spend millions to become President of the United States .There will be no letup in the storm clouds which cause it to rain cats and dogs on any agenda. Looking at the caliber of potential candidates one might conclude that indeed we have a basket full of fools.

Yes, this post is full of cliches. It was intentional. Making heads or tails of the problems surrounding our President is enough to make a grown man cry. Resorting to trite phrases in order to bring some levity to a grave situation is therapeutic and helps hold back the flood gates. I wish I knew how to solve the problems facing this country but I don't. Support for Obama and his aides who are more than capable to do the problem solving will have to suffice. If I'm going to write about the challenges facing our elected officials, I might as well have fun and leave the hard work to them. Having said that, how do you like those apples?
