When the shit hits the fan and the chips are down, batten down the hatches, clear the deck and declare all out war. You may have your back to the wall but if you put your shoulder to the wheel, take the bull by the horns and put your best foot forward, you may beat the rap. On the other hand, I must call a spade a spade. This strategy is full of clichés and probably should be avoided like the plague. A word to the wise is that if push comes to shove, it may be best to beat a hasty retreat, put a good face on it and hope for the best.
