All Thumbs

The cliche 'all thumbs' is normally used to convey how clumsy and awkward a person is at physical tasks. It has occurred to me that in the era of cell phones and texting, being all thumbs conveys just the opposite. Watching one text while holding a cell phone is akin to watching a ballet. The cell phone screen becomes a stage and thumbs glide over it as gracefully as any ballerina. Be that as it may, it is worth noting that there are those among us who stand out as a sore thumb when texting. The rule of thumb for those who truly are all thumbs when attempting to text is 'use your index finger'.
